American Eurocopter received an order for 16 EC135s at the ILA air show, which took place in September in Berlin. Dallas TX-based Med-Trans Corp placed a firm order for 10 EC135s, with options for 6 additional aircraft. The company provides air ambulance services throughout the US and currently operates 20 EC135s.
American Eurocopter has delivered an EC145 to the University of Utah's AirMed Program. The new helicopter was added to the program in late July, bringing the total number of ships in their fleet to 4. The aircraft will be completed by United Rotorcraft—a division of Air Methods—in Denver CO. Air Methods will then operate the aircraft on behalf of AirMed.
The Royal Thai Air Force has signed a deal for 4 EC725 SAR helicopters. Deliveries are expected to take place in 2015.
Bell has delivered the 1st EMS configured Bell 429 in Europe. Swiss-based Air Zermatt, a major EMS operator, selected the aircraft for SAR missions in the Alps. The company's selection process included a flight demonstration of the Bell 429 atop the Matterhorn at nearly 15,000 ft.
Bristow Group is acquiring Cougar Helicopters from VIH Aviation Group. The deal, valued at $250 million, is expected to close in 4Q2012 pending regulatory approval. Cougar Helicopters is the largest offshore energy and SAR helicopter service provider in Canada and focuses on the offshore oil and gas industry on the Atlantic coast. The company currently employs 250 people and has $124 million in reported annual revenues.
PZL-Swidnik, an AgustaWestland company, unveiled its prototype SW4 "Solo" UAV rotorcraft in September at the MSPO Expo in Kielce, Poland.
Aviasur has opened a new AgustaWestland service center at SCL (Santiago, Chile). It is intended to serve Aviasur's customers in the region. Last year AgustaWestland appointed Aviasur its independent sales representative for Chile and Peru. AgustaWestland now has more than 80 service centers throughout the world. Currently, 17 AgustaWestland helicopters are based in Chile—8 AW119 Koalas, 7 AW109s, 1 Grand and a W3A Sokol. The 1st AgustaWestland GrandNew for a Chilean customer is due to be delivered later this year.
EagleMed has placed an order for 2 AS350s with American Eurocopter. The 2 helicopters—an AS350 B2 and a B3—will be completed by Metro Aviation and configured for medical transport. EagleMed, based in Wichita KS, is one of the older air medical transport service providers in the Midwest. It currently operates 25 fixed and rotary-wing aircraft.
Era Helicopters has chosen Becker Avionics' BD 406 emergency beacon locator for its AW139 SAR/ EMS fleet. The BD 406 has the ability to directly decode and navigate precisely to 406-MHz beacons, greatly reducing the number of resources and amount of time required to locate downed aircrew, mariners and "adventurers." Era Helicopters, based in Lake Charles LA, operates a fleet of more than 170 helicopters globally and provides aerial support for oil and gas companies in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska.
