Thrane & Thrane's Aviator 700D has received FAA parts manufacturer approval (PMA), certifying its use aboard all aircraft and allowing the company to begin shipment of the product worldwide. Aviator 700D is certified for FANS 1/A, controller–pilot datalink communications (CPDLC) and voice safety service operations via the system's cockpit data and H+ voice channels.
Boeing and BizJet Intl, Lufthansa Technik's US subsidiary, signed a supplemental license agreement on Mar 26, giving BizJet the status of a Boeing Approved Completion Center. Bizjet Intl is now an official member of Boeing's BBJ completion network.
Flying Colours Corp of YPK (Peterborough ON, Canada) announced in late March that it had completed and delivered its first turboprop Blackhawk modification. This project, which was completed at the end of February, entailed modifications to a privately owned King Air C90 at YPK. The principal modification involved a full Blackhawk XP 135A engine upgrade, which provides increased true air speed, maximizes aircraft range and supports more efficient climb rates. The engine upgrade also reduces future maintenance requirements.
Jet Aviation CPS (Downtown, St Louis MO) has been named an authorized service center for the GE CF34-3 engine, which powers the Bombardier Challenger series. Jet Aviation CPS is already FAA and OEM-authorized to support Challengers. With GE authorization, the company is approved to perform line maintenance inspections and other support actions, including inspections for TBO extensions. This designation also allows Jet Aviation CPS to provide warranty support and facilitates access to both GE parts and technical support.
Gulfstream has appointed Tom Huff to the newly created position of aviation safety officer. Starting Apr 9 he oversees a comprehensive aviation safety program for all Gulfstream flight ops. Huff reports to Gulfstream Pres Larry Flynn. He was previously commander of Naval Test Wing Atlantic at NHK (Patuxent River NAS, Patuxent River MD).
Rodger Renaud joined West Star Aviation on Apr 1 as general manager of its ALN (Regional, St Louis MO) facility. He will be responsible for overseeing all West Star operations at ALN.
Sharon Pflieger has been named director, organizational effectiveness at Gulfstream. She reports to VP Human Resources Jennifer Giffen Vadersen. Pflieger was previously an organizational development manager, supporting Gulfstream business units in coaching, change management and leadership implementation.
American Jet Intl announced on Apr 13 that Annette Vitello has joined the company as its new ops director. She will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the flight department, including management and control of business development and growth of the company. Vitello previously served in management roles with Million Air MFR (Medford OR)'s charter department and FBO.
Duncan Aviation announced on Mar 29 that it has appointed Andy Richards as vp completions and modifications at BTL (Battle Creek MI). In his new role, Richards will oversee the BTL avionics line/installations and interior completions teams. He will also provide onsite support for OEM completions, materials and engineering. Richards was previously Duncan's OEM program manager.
FlightSafety Intl (FSI) has promoted John Brasfield to manager of its Cessna aircraft maintenance learning center in Wichita KS. Brasfield joined FSI in 1999 as an instructor at its Hawker Beechcraft learning center in Wichita. Most recently he was assistant manager of the Wichita Cessna learning center.
Replacing Brasfield in that position is Randy Annett, who joined FSI in 2001 at the Hawker Beechcraft learning center and most recently served as assistant director of training.
