ExecuJet Australasia has opened 2 new FBOs—one at MEB (Essendon, Melbourne VIC, Australia), the other at WLG (Intl, Wellington, New Zealand). The MEB facility is an expansion of ExecuJet's existing MRO shop. Amenities include a lounge, refreshments, Internet access and concierge services. The WLG location is a purpose-built facility offering a VIP lounge and support services including flight planning and weather, catering and arrangement of permits and hotels. Wellington Intl Airport invited ExecuJet to manage the facility. The company teamed in the project with Capital Jet Services, a local FBO firm. Landmark Aviation has opened a new FBO at OAK (Oakland CA), located at Hangar 5 in the North Field. The Houston TX-based company has upgraded the existing terminal and has begun hangar and property improvements. Amenities include a passenger lobby, pilot lounge, WSI, café, conference room and snooze room. Customs and immigration, agriculture clearance, valet, linen and dishwashing are available. This is Landmark's first FBO in the San Francisco area and its 12th new location in 2011.
Signature's newest location, at FRA (Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany), opened for business on Dec 19. The facility operates out of the airport's GA terminal, offering Signature's full suite of supervisory and coordination services, including billing, fuel, catering, hotels and ground transport. With MUC (Intl, Munich), this is the company's second branch in Germany.
Landmark Aviation is offering a new app, known as Landmark Connect, for smartphones and tablet computers. The app provides service and contact information for FBOs in the company's network, as well as weather, interactive regional maps and international FBO information for Landmark customers. Landmark Connect is currently available for the iPhone and iPad, with versions coming soon for Android and the BlackBerry Storm and Torch. Three FBOs have joined Avfuel's network of 2000 worldwide locations. At Island City Flying Service at EYW (Key West FL), VP Peter Sellers cites technical support, easy ordering procedures, reliable fuel supply, and support for training and marketing among the reasons Island City allied with Avfuel.
The family-owned company recently expanded the fuel farm and bought more fuel trucks. Major renovations at the FBO are scheduled for completion early in 2012.
United States Aviation at TUL (Intl, Tulsa OK) adds Avfuel contract fuel and Avtrip rewards to the FBO's offer of 8 to 12-min turnarounds. Other amenities include onsite customs service, a business center, crew vehicles and a heated hangar capable of housing aircraft up to the size of a BBJ.
Finally, 7-year-old San Luis Jet Center at SBP (San Luis Obispo CA) has added Avfuel as a cap to improvements such as the addition of 3 new fuel trucks, a relocated and upgraded fuel farm, and construction of a 34,000 sq ft maintenance facility which opened in early Nov 2011.
Odyssey Aviation Bahamas has opened new handling locations on the island of Eleuthera—GHB (Governor's Harbour, Bahamas) and RSD (Rock Sound, Bahamas). Odyssey Pres Steven Kelly says holiday traffic has created much chaos at Eleuthera and other small islands in previous years, which the company hopes to correct. Odyssey Aviation has full FBO facilities at GGT (Exuma, Bahamas) and NAS (Nassau, Bahamas).
Signal Aviation Services at LEB (Lebanon NH) has become a Phillips 66 Aviation branded fuel dealer. The company now offers both the Phillips WingPoints Rewards program and the AvCard reward program, FlyBuys. Signal offers a pilot lounge, weather room, heated hangars, catering, rental cars, and Part 145 repair station maintenance.
Traffic is improving steadily at OXF (Oxford, England). In late December the airport reported that it saw about 6000 business aircraft movements during the year—up more than 12% from 2010. OXF now ranks 5th in the UK for business aviation activity, above STD (Stansted, London, England).
ExecuJet Europe took over the FBO at CBG (Cambridge, England) as of Jan 1. The 2-year-old facility was formerly operated by Marshall Business Aviation as its only FBO. CBG is the first UK location for ExecuJet Europe, which now has 9 European FBOs.
Late December was an anxious time at CYS (Cheyenne WY) as workers at Sky Harbor Air, the local FBO, waited to find out whether they would still have jobs come the New Year. Sky Harbor Air says its lease to operate there has been amended to carry through 2018. Cheyenne Regional Airport Board says it ends on Dec 31, as Sky Harbor never exercised its right to extend the lease. The issue is before the Laramie County District Court, where Judge Michael Davis promises a ruling in the near future.
Carlson Aviation at YKN (Yankton SD) is out as an FBO. The City Commission has decided to manage the airport itself after the breakdown of talks aimed at renewing Carlson's contract. The city plans to hire an airport supervisor to provide fuel, direct traffic and manage the hangars, but mechanic services are on hold.
Transair Center has opened for business as the newest FBO at HNL (Intl, Honolulu, Oahu HI). Operating out of a temporary facility on the east side of Runway 4R, Transair Center offers domestic and international ground handling, quick turns, a lounge and meeting room, and other standard FBO services. A new passenger terminal and VIP lounge are scheduled for completion in 2012. Transair Center is owned by Transair Executive Airlines, and cargo and charter operator since 1982. It is an Avfuel branded dealer.
Former Euro Aviation at ATH (Intl, Athens, Greece) has been rebranded as Universal Aviation Greece. The facility offers full VIP meet-and-greet service, customs and immigration on site, diplomatic and VIP passenger coordination, and all the usual FBO services and amenities. It is among the oldest of Universal Aviation's 41 locations.
