Jeppesen has compiled a new high-resolution terrain database for the Aspen Avionics Evolution line of flight displays. Outside the continental US, best resolution is improved from 30 arc seconds to 9 arc seconds, which the Evolution synthetic vision system (SVS) requires. Resolution in the continental US remains 3 arc seconds. The upgrade is available with an active Jepp subscription for Aspen data. It is suitable for single and multiple-display installations with SVS and for the MFD of a multidisplay installation without SVS.
Lufthansa Technik (LHT) has bought sole ownership of AirLiance Materials of Rochelle IL. AirLiance is a major supplier of high-end traceable aircraft parts for heavy maintenance checks, overhauls and repairs of aircraft engines and airframes. LHT had formerly shared the company with minority owners United Airlines and Air Canada.
CAE has opened Mexico's first bizjet and civil helicopter training center, at TLC (Toluca, Mexico City). The facility is equipped for training on the Learjet 40/45 and Bell 412. New full-flight simulators for those models recently received Level D-equivalent qualification from the Mexican DGAC. CAE has also received FAA Level D approval for its King Air 350 Pro Line 21 full-flight simulator at DFW.
Hermann Wever, Embraer's vice chairman, has taken over as chairman. The former president of Siemens do Brasil (from 1987–2001), Wever succeeds Maurício Novis Botelho, who resigned on Jan 13 for personal reasons. Botelho was president and CEO of Embraer from 1995–2007 and had held the position of chairman since 2006.
Michele "Mike" Arcamone (L) has been appointed president of Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. He succeeds Gary Scott (R), who retired on Oct 1, 2011. Arcamone had spent 30 years in the automotive industry, most recently as president and CEO of Seoul-based GM Korea.
Nidal Sammur has been promoted to director of engineering for FlightSafety Intl's simulation facility in Broken Arrow OK. He joined FlightSafety in 1992 and served most recently as staff scientist. Sammur replaces Ron Jantzen, who retired from the company in December.
Carlos Graziani has joined Landmark Aviation as general manager of its TMB (Kendall–Tamiami FL) location. He previously served as ops mgr for Atlantic Aviation Tucson, and in management roles at Jet Direct Aviation.
