Sheltair opened a new location at SPG (Albert Whitted, St Petersburg FL) on Nov 1. St Petersburg Jet Center is Sheltair's 15th FBO. Eight of its locations are in Florida, 1 in Georgia and 6 in New York.
ARINC Direct and FlightAware have partnered to offer live flight tracking for business aviation operators. ARINC says the current "Track Flights" service on its website will be replaced with the FlightAware-powered tracker, providing operators with enhanced live tracking through the exchange of information by both companies. The service provides ARINC customers with a secure and customized FlightAware interface on ARINC's website by combining ARINC's datalink and flightplan information with FlightAware's aircraft tracking algorithms.
Avfuel has added 3 new FBOs to its contract fuel network—Minot Aero Center at MOT (Minot ND), Million Air at BUR (Burbank CA) and CYHU H-18 Services at YHU (Saint-Hubert, Montreal QC, Canada).
Signature and CLEAR are working together to streamline security screenings for the business and general aviation communities. An agreement was reached by both companies giving Signature customers the ability to enroll with CLEAR and use its services at select commercial airports and Signature locations throughout the US. CLEAR uses biometric technology to identify members and expedites them through airport security. CLEAR currently has operations and dedicated security lines at DEN, DFW, HPN, MCO and SFO. As part of the agreement, CLEAR will place kiosks at Signature locations at DCA, IAD, HPN and MCO.
Avfuel has revealed several new technology initiatives for its FBO and end-user customers. In the first of 3 initiatives announced at the recent NBAA convention, Avfuel unveiled a Web-based point-of-sale system called Avfuel Hub. This is currently being implemented at Avfuel locations throughout the US. The company says the new system will help its FBO customers by minimizing transaction time and allowing FBO personnel to focus more on their customers.
Avfuel announced the development of a new iPad app as well, describing it as a personal fuel management center for pilots to locate fuel and services on the go, along with pricing information. The company also says it is in the final stages of revamping its website. Both the iPad app and website are scheduled for release in early 2013.
Jetex has expanded its fuel services in Brazil, saying it can now supply fuel to international operators at domestic as well as international airports. Previously, Jetex was only able to provide fuel services to clients at Brazil's international airports.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) has selected 6 articles from Professional Pilot for inclusion in a textbook for the university's new FBO management certificate program. The articles, penned by Gene Condreras, president of Panorama Flight Service, will appear in an electronic textbook for what ERAU says is the first ever university-based certificate program in FBO management. The course covers subjects ranging from FBO operations, property management and leasing to finance and budgeting, insurance and risk management, leadership, marketing and business communications.
