American Eurocopter has delivered a 3rd AS350B2 AStar to the Ontario (CA) Police Dept Air Support Unit. The aircraft is due to enter service in December, performing patrol and surveillance missions for the City of Ontario. B2s already operated by the unit are equipped with NVGs, 30-million-candlepower Spectrolab searchlights, and L3/Wescam FLIR. Some 70–80% of the unit's missions are flown at night.

AgustaWestland reports that the Hiroshima Prefectural Disaster Relief Dept has contracted with the company and its Japanese representative, Mitsui Bussan, for an AW139 medium twin helicopter. The aircraft, due to be delivered in 2012, will be used for firefighting and disaster relief missions. Mission-specific equipment includes a "belly tank" firefighting system, Bambi Bucket, dual rappelling hooks, a nose-mounted forward-looking infrared (FLIR) camera and air-to-ground transmission capability, which will be installed in Japan.

Eurocopter Japan recently delivered 2 more TH135 training helicopters to the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF). JMSDF already op­er­ates 3 of the type.

Becker Avionics has introduced a new dual-band transceiver for SAR operations. The MP20, produced by Axnes Aviation of Norway, offers maritime VHF communications as well as a UHF radio to link with the Polycon wireless intercom extension system. The maritime VHF channel provides backup communication for an external crewmember who needs to communicate directly with a vessel, or as a backup option if the aircraft moves out of range of an external crewmember.

The company's DVCS6100 digital audio system has been supplied on the 2 Eurocopter Japan TH135 training helicopters recently delivered to JMSDF.

Pro Star Aviation of Londonderry NH has won FAA approval for a stand-alone heading display on the GH3100 electronic standby instrument system (ESIS) with Version 3.0 software. The STC amendment ap­plies to the Sikorsky S76. The solid-state GH3100 ESIS provides attitude, airspeed and altitude information, plus slip/skid and navigation data from the helicopter's existing electronics. The new heading function operates independently of the existing magnetic heading source.

United Rotorcraft Solutions of Decatur TX has refurbished 2 air medical Eurocopter EC135s for APA (Centennial, Denver CO)-based Air Methods. The task included major maintenance inspections and clearing of discrepancies as well as sanding, repairing and repainting the exteriors and reupholstering the interiors.
