McGill Aviation at FHB (Fernandina Beach FL) has been awarded nearly $2 million in the latest round of a battle with the City of Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island. The judgment includes almost $1.3 million in legal fees, plus past damages and future rent reduction. This legal odyssey began in 2004 when the City unilaterally cut 3 acres of paved parking ramp from the area McGill had leased and denied the FBO any form of compensation. When the FBO went to court, the City tried to evict them. Since then a mediation, an arbitration, 2 lawsuits by the City, and 1 appeal have all gone McGill's way. Nonetheless, the City has announced that it will appeal again. Final resolution of the long-running dispute is expected by Mar 2012.
