First Aviation at TEB (Teterboro NJ) is marking its 25th anniversary this year. The company got its start in 1986 when 2 recreational fliers looked for somewhere to tie down their Beechcraft. When Joe and Florence Ritorto learned that Beechcraft was about to close its TEB location, they bought the facility and opened their own FBO. Since then, First Aviation has grown into a major business, with more than 120 full-time employees pumping well over 6 million gallons of fuel annually. A new $60-million terminal with 120,000 sq ft of hangar space opened in 2007. A year later, the Ritortos handed the operation over to Bill Thomas, who had just completed a career as a US Navy pilot. First Aviation is celebrating its anniversary with special events at industry gatherings.
