Signature has purchased the assets of Tropical Aviation Corp at SIG (Isla Grande, San Juan PR). The company's facilities at San Juan's downtown GA/business airport include 29,000 sq ft of hangars and shade ports and 6900 sq ft of executive terminal and offices. Signature is the world's largest FBO network, with more than 100 locations worldwide, including 50 in the US.
Heritage Aviation has bought the FBO facilities formerly owned by Atlantic Aviation at BTV (Burlington VT). The sale included an FBO terminal building, fuel farm and 3 hangars totaling 45,000 sq ft. The transaction was facilitated by Aviation Business Strategies Group, an FBO operations and marketing consultancy based in Atlanta GA.
Preferred Jet Center at RYY (Cobb County, Atlanta GA) has finished a 4-month ramp redesign and expansion. Designed to accommodate circular traffic flow for multiple G550-sized aircraft, the new 14-acre ramp includes 2 entrances each 120 ft wide, 150-ft taxi lanes, 2 reinforced parking pads for aircraft above 120,000 lb, and amenities such as new tiedown parking and wash bays with electrical connections. The completed project also adds 3 acres -of aircraft parking.
Wilson Air Center MEM (Intl, Memphis TN) hosted a welcome-home celebration recently for a local aviation hero. Businessman Wei Chen landed at MEM on Jul 29 after becoming the first Chinese citizen to circumnavigate the globe in a single-engine airplane—a Socata TBM700. Wei runs an import/export business called Sunshine Enterprises. His copilot was Rob Williams of Memphis Aircraft Parts. The trip—a fundraiser for St Jude's Children's Research Hospital—took 69 days and covered nearly 25,000 miles.
Horizon Business Concepts has upgraded its flagship TotalFBO point-of-sale program to simplify credit card processing for Conoco Phillips-branded FBOs. The new revision allows dealers to enter a sale as a single transaction. Previously, it was necessary to enter credit card information at least twice through 2 different systems. Horizon describes the new upgrade as faster and says it should be less error-prone.
Signature has acquired all assets of the former Avitat Boca Raton at BCT (Boca Raton FL), previously owned by Premier Aviation. The facility includes a 17,000 sq ft terminal and 72,000 sq ft of hangar space. The 24/7 operation will be branded under the Signature name.
TAC Air of Texarkana TX has acquired the assets of Executive Beechcraft (operated as Signature) at SUS (Spirit of St Louis MO). TAC Air bought the assets of Jet Direct at SUS in 2009. The new acquisition gives it more than 150,000 sq ft of hangar space at the airport. The company has also renovated its executive terminal, adding a covered passenger drop-off area, a pilot sleep room, expanded pilot lounge, more passenger lounges and updated conference rooms and flight planning. Maintenance services for the new facility are being provided by West Star Aviation.
Million Air has received a multiyear lease agreement to construct and develop a new FBO complex at YYC (Calgary AB, Canada). The first phase of the $12-million project will entail building a 7000 sq ft FBO and a 28,000 sq ft hangar on 7 acres of the property. The second phase, on 6 acres, will add two 28,000 sq ft hangars at YYC's Global Logistics Park. Phase 1 is scheduled for completion in 2012. The facility will be Million Air's third in Canada and the 31st in its network.
Banyan Air Service has acquired hangars 65 and 66 at FXE (Exec, Fort Lauderdale FL), giving the FBO an additional 33,000 sq ft of space. The hangars have been remodeled into rentable offices. Banyan now has 15 hangars and over 1 million sq ft of space in an 85-acre complex at FXE. It plans to add another 60,000 sq ft of hangar space for common storage and charter operations. Banyan is also adding 26 security cameras to cover hangars, ramp areas and parking lots.
