TAG Aviation FAB (Farnborough, England) is appealing a local council decision that would limit growth at the airport. Rushmoor Borough Council’s development control committee refused to allow an increase in aircraft movements at FAB from 28,000 to 50,000 annually, along with an increase in weekend and holiday movements from 5000 to 8900. In denying TAG’s application, committee members claimed the case had not been made that the economic benefit would outweigh the impact on surrounding residential property. TAG lawyers believe that recommendations from full-time planning officials were not given enough weight. The appeal is expected to lead to a public inquiry to be held in early 2010.
