GPM (Grand Prairie TX)-based Uniflight has completed the overhaul and refurbishment of 5 Bell 412s for the Honduran Air Force. This extensive project included a complete overhaul and inspection of each airframe, engines and all dynamic components as well as an avionics upgrade and modernization. American Eurocopter has delivered another AS350B3 to the Phoenix Police Dept Air Support unit. This is the 5th B3 for the unit, which started operating AS350s in 2005. The fleet has since grown to meet the demands of an expanding coverage area. "Our helicopters need to have proven performance and reliability to handle the variety of missions we perform," says Phoenix Police Dept Air Support Unit Chief Pilot Phil Tilford. "The AS350B3 has been very dependable and has one of the lowest operating costs in its class, so it was an easy choice."
North Flight Data Systems, formed recently through a partnership with Metro Aviation, is acquiring the OuterLink flight data system (FDS) product line. The acquisition includes the OuterLink voice and video recorder, CV²R recorder and multifunction data acquisition unit with quick access recorder. Included in the purchase is the Safety Matrix Analysis Reporting Threshold (SMART) software, which performs real-time data analysis on board the aircraft and transmits customer-defined event data messages over a satcom link. The General Security of Libya has taken delivery of its 2nd AW139. The aircraft is part of an order for 5 AW139 medium twin helicopters placed by Libya to perform a range of roles including border patrol and search and rescue. Final assembly and delivery took place from the all-new Libyan Italian Advanced Technology Company (LIATEC) facility at Abou Aisha, some 40 miles south of Tripoli.
Sabah Air Aviation of Malaysia has taken delivery of its first Eurocopter EC145. The aircraft will be used for medical airlift missions in the Sabah region, north of Borneo.
OP2, the 2nd prototype MI38, made its first flight in November. Built by Moscow Mil Helicopter Plant JSC and Kazan Helicopters JSC (subsidiaries of holding company Russian Helicopters), OP2 has already completed 26 ground runups and 7 hover and low-speed flights over the runway. Kazan Helicopters says the test program is proceeding well. The MI38 is powered by 2 Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127/TS engines and is equipped with a modern Tranzas IBKV38 avionics suite with glass cockpit. The helicopter can also be powered by Russian TV7-117V turboshafts. MI38 OP2 is scheduled to be handed over to Moscow Mil Helicopter Plant for the full flight test cycle.
San Juan (NM) Regional Medical Center is adding a Bell 429. Purchase of the light twin supports the San Juan Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) AirCare unit based out of Farmington NM. AirCare & SJRMC Trauma Mgr Mike Berve says, "Our hospital and the AirCare program have depended on Bell helicopters for more than 18 years to safely transport patients. After nearly 13,000 flight hours in the Bell 222, we look forward adding the 429 to our fleet."
