ASA Group to build world-class FBO at Phuket, Thailand

HKT (Phuket, Thailand) terminal area.

Airports of Thailand (AOT) has given the go-ahead for Hong Kong-based ASA Group to develop the country's first world-class FBO at HKT (Phuket, Thailand).

A state-of-the-art terminal and business center will accommodate the swelling ranks of VIP visitors to Thailand and is expected to be operational by late summer.

ASA Spokesman Simon Wagstaff states, "We handle many private flights into Bangkok and Phuket, and the time is right to cater for our growing client base of VIP visitors, who presently have nowhere in the airports to go once they disembark." He adds that ASA has many years of experience in flight planning and ground handling into Asian destinations.

HKT is the most important gateway to Thailand's premier tourist region. Last year AOT announced that it would inject 5 billion baht ($145 million) into expansion of HKT to raise its capacity to 11.5 million passengers by the year 2016-an increase of 77% over current capacity.

ASA says it will also offer VIP security, nonscheduled business aircraft charter, concierge service, overflight and landing clearances, inflight catering, aircraft parking, hangarage, fuel, customs and immigration, passenger and baggage handling, limousine transfers and hotel accommodation.

Signature and Brussels-based Aviapartner Services have signed an agreement covering the joint development of an FBO at NCE (Nice-Côte d'Azur, France). Both companies will develop existing ramp services for business and GA aircraft under license from the airport. The NCE operation will be branded Signature Flight Support/Aviapartner and will be developed to conform with Signature service standards. This agreement brings the number of Signature locations in Europe to 23. Vista Aviation has relocated to a new facility at WHP (Whiteman, Los Angeles CA). After 27 years at WHP, it has constructed a 12,000 sq ft FBO on the east side of the airport. The new building has an expanded maintenance and avionics facility and a parts and pilot supply shop. There is also a flight school with CATS testing on the 2nd floor.

Vista's new 4-acre location includes 32 tiedowns, 26 T-hangars and 8 rectangular hangars. TV Host Mark Walberg served as master of ceremonies for the grand opening-an event that included factory presentations and product demonstrations by aircraft and avionics OEMs. Vista Aviation is an authorized Cessna service center and certified Cessna parts dealer.

Fargo Jet Center at FAR (Intl, Fargo ND) has joined the Avfuel network of branded FBOs. Located on the north side of the airport, Fargo Jet Center's offerings include FBO and line services, maintenance and avionics repair stations, aircraft charter and management, aircraft sales and rental and flight instruction. Renovated last year, Fargo Jet Center boasts a pilot suite with snooze room, flight planning center, conference rooms and theater. Flightcrews have access to wireless Internet, complimentary coffee and snacks. Crew cars are readily available. Fargo Jet Center is an authorized service center for Cessna, Hawker Beechcraft, Pilatus and Dallas Airmotive. It is also a US port of entry, with customs available 24/7.

ExxonMobil Aviation hosted its annual European Avitat meeting the day before the start of EBACE 2009. Representatives of the 9 European and Middle Eastern Avitats were joined by their counterparts from the US and Canada.

Together they discussed items such as the impact of the current business environment and gave an update on their current situation and future plans. In addition, ExxonMobil updated the FBOs on its view of energy outlooks and industry trends. At the conclusion of the meeting ExxonMobil presented a series of inaugural awards recognizing customer longevity and highest sales achieved. Winners of these awards were:

TAG FAB (Farnborough, England)-Highest into-storage sales

Jet Center MFR

Jet Center Medford at MFR (Medford OR) has consolidated its operation into a modern facility at the end of Runway 32, and has sold its fuel operation to Million Air Medford. Jet Center Medford has been in business for 41 years and has been locally owned and operated since 1982. Its maintenance department has separate and extensive parts and avionics facilities and can handle any size job on jet, turboprop and piston aircraft. Last month's FBO News (Pro Pilot May 2009, p 58) reported-incorrectly-that Jet Center Medford had been purchased.
