Bombardier's biennial maintenance and operations conference is set to be held Apr 21-23 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dallas TX this year. A one-day safety stand-down is being included in this year's event.

Gulfstream has launched a spare parts warranty program, eliminating the cost of faulty parts to customers. Spares from any authorized service center are now covered under a 2-year warranty. Installation work comes with a 1-year warranty.

Execujet has opened MRO bases at BBN (Brisbane QLD, Australia) and BWU (Essendon, Melbourne VIC, Australia) to support its existing heavy maintenance facility at SYD (Kingsford Smith, Sydney NSW, Australia). Expansion in the Asia Pacific region is a significant program for Execujet with inauguration of its FBO and MRO at SZB (Subang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) in Aug 2008. Completion of the MRO facility at SZB is slated for 2010.

General Dynamics has added vehicles to its mobile support fleet to be based at its Minneapolis MN and West Palm Beach FL service centers. The company now operates about 15 vans and trucks outfitted with maintenance equipment for AOG incidents. Other vehicles are based at service centers in Westfield MA, Dallas TX and Las Vegas NV.

Honeywell's HTF7000 engine fleet has passed the 500,000-hr mark. Development of the turbo_fan continues on the company's Boeing 757 testbed, with the engine mounted on the upper fuselage. Honeywell uses the 757 as an airborne lab for validating its aerospace products.

John Bingham is now Piaggio America's exec VP marketing and sales. He comes from Cirrus Design in Duluth MN, where he served a similar role. Bingham has also served as VP of both Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

Tonka Hufford has been appointed VP and gen mgr of Ranger Rotorcraft's Integrated Flight Systems (IFS) division, which designs and builds helicopter air conditioning units and video camera systems. He previously served at Premier Aviation and later Heritage Aviation. In those positions, he came to know IFS as one of its customers.

Hawker Beechcraft has appointed Bill Boisture as its new chairman and CEO. He is a former president of both NetJets and Gulfstream Aerospace. Most recently he was president of Intrepid Aviation and a senior advisor for aero-space at The Carlyle Group.

Richard Thrasher, a senior airworthiness inspector for Gulfstream, has received FAA's Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award. He has been with Gulfstream since 2000, previously working with Raytheon and as an aircraft consultant. Thrasher began his career as an aircraft mechanic in 1956 while with the US Marine Corps.

JetDirect Aviation's former pres Jake Cartwright has joined Sunset Aviation's leadership team. In this position he will serve as guidance for the company in its growth. Based in Novato CA, Sunset operates managed and charter fleets and maintenance as a subsidiary of JetDirect.

Million Air DAL (Love, Dallas TX) has appointed Gerry Kelly to the position of charter sales dir.

Chuck Speakman is joining Banyan FXE as mgr of Hangar63, the company's store. He comes from ACR Electronics, where he led sales and technical training.

Toby Blanton was recently recertified as a designated pilot proficiency examiner on the Bombardier Challenger 604/605. He has held this title for over 5 years. Blanton is currently ops dir for Turner Enterprises in Atlanta GA.

Last Flight

Sydney Baker, former dir ops for the Eastman Kodak flight dept, died on Feb 27. He was 63. Baker spent 30 years flying as a corporate pilot for IBM, where he led the flight dept's safety team. He joined Sonat Services as its flight dept dir of ops before moving to Kodak. Baker began his aviation career in 1967 flying Bell AH1 Hueycobras for the US Marine Corps in Vietnam. During service he was awarded the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Over the next 42 years, he would amass over 16,000 hrs flying time along with an ATP, CFII and helo ratings.
