Million Air continues with renovation plans after its HOU (Hobby, Houston TX) FBO was hit by Hurricane Ike. "We just came through the 4th most devastating hurricane to hit the Houston area," says Million Air CEO Roger Woolsey (Center). "Our facility was the only one that was open and had fuel. We had our power back up and no one wanted to leave. Our employees are passionate people and they want to make sure our customers got whatever they needed." Aerial view of NHZ (Brunswick NAS, Brunswick ME). Scheduled to close in 2011 under the US Dept of Defense's Base Realignment and Closure program, NHZ will reopen as an executive airport featuring an Oxford Aviation maintenance and paint center.

Ross Aviation has signed with Passur for its FBO fuel management service. The Web-based software that Passur provides will allow Ross to track customers' flights and fuel usage.

Separately, Galaxy's FBO network will begin using Passur's Fuel Portal. This system will help the FBOs to price fuel more accurately based on customer usage.

Jet Aviation will expand its operations at VKO (Vnukovo, Moscow, Russia) by moving into a new 32,827 sq ft hangar. Currently, Jet Aviation can carry out maintenance on Bombardier and Gulfstream aircraft. With the move to the larger facility, the company plans to start offering maintenance service for more OEMs. In October, Jet Aviation signed an MOU with Vnukovo Invest for the 2 companies to cooperate financially in the development of Jet Aviation VKO.


Rudy's unveils new Chantilly VA facility near IAD

Rudy's Inflight Catering has expanded its Chantilly VA operation to support increased demand from Washington area airports. On Sep 30, Rudy's officially opened the doors of its new kitchen and support facility, which is located 5 miles from IAD (Dulles, Washington DC). The new 9000 sq ft facility boasts 55 staff and 9 delivery vehicles, along with a new kitchen (inset L) and offices (inset R).

 


Galaxy Aviation has purchased Spectrum Jet Center at HDN (Hayden CO) and at the same time was able to extend the FBO's lease at the airport. HDN is the primary airport for Steamboat Springs CO. Its 10,000-ft runway can handle any size of business jet. West Star Aviation has broken ground on a new 37,500 sq ft facility at CAE (Columbia SC). The new FBO facility will also have a 24,500 sq ft, 2-story office and shop center. Exec VP and General Mgr West Star Aviation Mike Durst says, "Customers have been asking West Star to open a location on the east coast, and we are thrilled to come to South Carolina to meet their needs." The company expects to complete construction of the FBO by next summer.

Midcoast Aviation has opened a new hangar at its CPS (Downtown, St Louis MO) location. This new 146,000 sq ft facility has two 48,000 sq ft bays designed for narrowbody business jet completions, a 36,000 sq ft office section and 14,000 sq ft of support shops. Construction at the facility began in Jul 2007.

Vitesse plans to open a new 450,000 sq ft FBO at MQJ (Mount Comfort, Indianapolis IN). The company will also operate Hawker 800XP and 850XPs from MQJ as a charter service.

Embraer has opened an executive jet center at FLL (Intl, Fort Lauderdale FL). The 55,500 sq ft center will service Embraer Phenom and Legacy jets and is the 3rd company service center Embraer has opened in the US. Embraer's service network now also includes BDL (Windsor Locks CT) and IWA (Phoenix-Mesa Gateway AZ).

Million Air will now offer AvFuel services at its SAT (Intl, San Antonio TX) FBO. Addition of Million Air SAT, together with Million Air RME (Rome NY), also added recently, brings the number of new FBOs AvFuel has signed this year to 41.

Banyan Air Service Senior VP Michael O'Keeffe has been appointed board chairman for the National Aircraft Resale Association (NARA). O'Keeffe has been involved with NARA since 2003 and served most recently as the association's vice chairman.


Execujet Europe has opened its newly renovated facility at SXF (Schonefeld, Berlin, Germany). The 1321 sq ft facility, which began as a Lufthansa Technik and Bombardier joint venture, offers all the standard FBO amenities. Execujet purchased the premises in 2005. Renovation cost $500,150.

 

Clay Lacy Aviation (CLA) celebrated its 40th anniversary during the NBAA convention. (L-R) NATA Pres Jim Coyne, CLA Founder Clay Lacy and former GAMA Pres Ed Stimpson.
