Key Air customer event at OXC showcases luxury living

Charter and aircraft management company Key Air hosted a customer appreciation event at OXC (Oxford CT) on May 7. Dubbed "Excellence and Opulence," the event showcased luxury living, including aircraft, automobiles, art, jewelry and crystal. Displayed on the ramp were a Bombardier Global Express and Challenger 300, a Gulfstream V and G450, a Falcon 2000, an Embraer Legacy, a Piper Meridian and a Socata TBM850. FlightSafety Intl, MedAire and Universal Weather & Aviation also had displays.

Signature Flight Support has completed a major refurbishment of its Le Terminal FBO at LBG (le Bourget, Paris, France), which is now the largest FBO on the airport. Its Terminal 1 facility is also at LBG. Signature's work at LBG is part of a larger investment in facilities by the company at sites in Europe. Last year Signature opened new facilities at LGG (Liege, Belgium) and SKG (Thessaloniki, Greece).

Jet Aviation has opened a 103,350 sq ft completion facility for widebody executive aircraft at BSL (Basel, Switzerland), capable of accommodating a Boeing 747-8 and an Airbus A380 plus 3 midsize bizjets at the same time. Construction was completed in 7 months.

Mercury Air Group of Los Angeles CA has begun operating the Royal Terminal at KWI (Intl, Kuwait). A grand opening event for the 100,000 sq ft terminal is scheduled for June, but basic aircraft flight services including line service, fuel and handling are available now. Mercury is operating the facility under a contract from Royal Aviation Kuwait.

ExcelAire's private jet terminal at ISP (Islip NY) has been approved by TSA as a departure point for business travel to DCA (National, Washington DC). Approval necessitated passing TSA security checks and implementing special security procedures. ISP now becomes one of 21 gateway airports approved for departures to DCA by non-airline operators.

West Star Aviation has added a new 33,000 sq ft facility at DAL (Love, Dallas TX), bringing its total maintenance operation on the field to 75,000 sq ft. The new building is adjacent to Runway 31L.

West Star already had a 42,000 sq ft facility next to Rwy 31R. The new facility is sized to accommodate large business jets, including Falcon 900s, Gulfstream G550s and Global Express aircraft, and will specialize in sheet metal, avionics and interior refurbishment.

Spanish FBO operator Gestair has moved into a facility in the new corporate aviation terminal at BCN (Barcelona, Spain). Gestair says the move is part of a 2-year joint venture with Assistair and is expected to result in a 20% growth in Gestair's business at BCN in 2008 and 2009. In addition, Gestair says it will open a facility at VLC (Valencia, Spain) this summer and is looking at unspecified sites beyond the Iberian peninsula for further expansion.

General Dynamics Aviation Services (GDAS) has added a 47,200 sq ft hangar complex to its maintenance center at DAL (Love, Dallas TX) to service Gulfstream G200s. Leased from Signature, the hangar complex includes 31,000 sq ft of hangar space and 16,200 sq ft of shops and offices. The addition brings the GDAS operation at DAL to 170,000 sq ft comprising 3 hangar facilities. GDAS reports that it serviced 2652 aircraft at DAL in 2007.

OXF is building a new business aviation terminal, called Oxfordjet, scheduled for completion in July. Earlier this year OXF completed a 37,675 sq ft business aviation ramp suitable for parking Airbus ACJs or Boeing BBJs.

Threshold Aviation, an Avfuel branded dealer, has completed renovations to its facility at CNO (Chino CA), including a 90,000 sq ft hangar, 30,000 sq ft of shops and offices, and a 4000 sq ft FBO terminal building. Threshold includes a display of classic cars in addition to typical FBO amenities.

PremiAir is relocating its fixed-wing maintenance operation from BBS (Blackbushe, England) to a 20,000 sq ft hangar at OXF (Kidlington, Oxford, England). PremiAir is a factory authorized service center for Hawker Beechcraft business aircraft. PremiAir will continue to perform helicopter maintenance at BBS.

SLN (Salina KS) Airport Authority has begun a 10 to 15-year development project that will include more than 2 million sq ft of hangars, shops, air cargo facilities, T-hangars and office space on a 100-acre parcel formerly occupied by pavement, utilities, streets and drainage installed when SLN was a US Air Force base.
