Honeywell Aerospace has named StarPort USA at SFB (Sanford, Orlando FL) as an authorized line maintenance center. This status permits StarPort to perform line maintenance on Honeywell TFE731 engines and GTCP100 and 150 APUs. StarPort is already an authorized Honeywell avionics sales, installation and service center and is scheduled to host the Southeastern Honeywell Operators Seminar on Sep 5. In addition to being an FAA repair station, StarPort holds repair station certificates from the airworthiness authorities in Bermuda and Venezuela. StarPort performs light and heavy maintenance and offers mobile AOG services. The company has extensive sheet metal and structural repair capability, full avionics services and in-house NDT services with radiography.
Cutter Aviation has been designated a preferred FBO by Bombardier Flexjet. This applies to the Cutter locations at ABQ (Intl, Albuquerque NM), DVT (Deer Valley, Phoenix AZ), ELP (Intl, El Paso TX), PHX (Sky Harbor, Phoenix AZ), RBD (Exec, sDallas TX) and TKI (McKinney TX). Achieving preferred FBO status from Flexjet requires facilities to demonstrate high levels of customer service, pilot and passenger amenities and safety.
Million Air recently celebrated the transformation of Million Air VCV (Victorville CA) from a military base into a luxury executive terminal catering to military and private aircraft and featuring a theater, pilot lounge, flight planning room, quiet rooms and cafe. The terminal at VCV has been servicing aircraft as part of the Million Air network for 2 years. During that time, the 10,000 sq ft, 1-story building underwent a $500,000 renovation. The airport has the 2nd longest runway in the US, at 15,050 ft.
Ross Aviation has acquired the Laredo Aero Center at LRD (Laredo TX)-the largest FBO at LRD. This is the 9th FBO acquisition for Ross Aviation, which now includes FBOs in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii and New Mexico. Laredo Air Center has 98,000 sq ft of hangar, office and terminal space and has been renovated recently. Cofounder of Laredo Aero Center Doug Lacey continues as general mgr under Ross.
OxfordJet at OXF (Kidlington, Oxford, England) has opened a new 7000 sq ft business aviation center, tripling the size of its facility. The addition's modular construction allowed it to be erected in 15 weeks. Accommodation has also been made for future expansion on a 2nd floor. The building overlooks a new 37,700 sq ft parking apron which OxfordJet installed earlier this year. The ramp is capable of handling large business jets such as Airbus A318 Elites or Boeing BBJs. The airport has upgraded its fire and rescue services capability to handle larger aircraft. The executive terminal has separate lounges for passengers and flightcrews, meeting rooms, kitchen, a bar, and customs and immigration facilities to accommodate international arrivals.
Jet Source says it will soon open a new FBO facility at HND (Henderson, Las Vegas NV) which will feature 2 new 35,000 sq ft hangars and an executive terminal.
Red River Turbines (RRT) at GYI (Sherman-Denison, TX) has been awarded a Part 145 repair station certificate from FAA. Operating from a 25,000 sq ft facility, RRT specializes in repairing and overhauling GE CJ610 and CF700 engines.
Atlantic Aviation has opened a new 6000 sq ft terminal at JZI (Exec, Charleston SC) with a 4-acre aircraft ramp. Atlantic describes the facility as employing architecture consistent with its location. It augments the Atlantic facility at CHS (Intl, Charleston SC).
Landmark Aviation LAX (Intl, Los Angeles CA) has been appointed a key fuel supplier by Air BP. Landmark recently upgraded its LAX terminal facility and expanded its ramp operations area. New facilities include a private VIP lounge, flight planning room with WSI Pilot Brief Pro and free Internet access.
Air BP's US general aviation division, working with Edmonton AB, Canada-based Aerostudies, has developed an online FBO training program for its dealer network. The educational series uses graphics, real-world scenarios, testimonials and day-to-day situations to train line service and customer service employees. Aerostudies specializes in online aviation training.Air BP training mgr Walter Chartrand says current offerings are the beginnings of a broad-based FBO employee training program focusing on FBO safety and customer service.
Jet Aviation DUS (Dusseldorf, Germany) has been named an authorized service center for the Piaggio P180 Avanti. While Jet Aviation DUS has performed maintenance on P180s for more than a decade, the company's new status will allow it to perform heavy maintenance up to D Checks.
SheltAir is investing more than $41 million in capital improvements to 6 of its FBO facilities in Florida, Georgia and New York. Improvements to SheltAir's headquarters FBO at FLL (Intl, Fort Lauderdale FL) will make up the majority of the investment. Work at FLL includes a 38,000 sq ft hangar and a 20,000 sq ft hangar. In addition, a total of 88,000 sq ft of hangar space, 36,000 sq ft of office space and 7 acres of new ramp are scheduled for completion in 4Q09. SheltAir's 5 other projects are a 13,000 sq ft hangar at DAB (Daytona Beach FL), an 80,000 sq ft hangar, 10,000 sq ft office and a 5 acre ramp at PIE (St Petersburg- Clearwater FL), a 20,000 sq ft hangar and 2400 sq ft of office space at ORL (Exec, Orlando, FL), a new hangar and 7000 sq ft executive terminal at SAV (Savannah GA)-SheltAir's newest FBO location-and a 20,000 sq ft hangar and 5000 sq ft terminal at FOK (Westhampton Beach NY).
NorthAmerican Flight Services at 5B2 (Saratoga Springs NY) has joined Avfuel's contract fuel program and now offers customers lower-cost jet fuel. NorthAmerican is an Avfuel branded FBO.
Jet Works Air Center at DTO (Denton TX) has begun work on a 43,000 sq ft maintenance hangar expansion. When finished in 1Q09 the new building will accommodate long-range business jets. The addition will include 40,000 sq ft of space for aircraft maintenance and repair, inspections and avionics installations, offices and back shops. Jet Source, which operates a 120,000 sq ft FBO and executive terminal at CRQ (Carlsbad CA), has acquired Western Flight-formerly a major competitor. Western Flight has a 30,000 sq ft hangar and the largest ramp at CRQ, and is the only FBO authorized to fuel commercial airliners on the field. Jet Source provides maintenance, avionics, ramp service, fuel sales, aircraft charter, management and aircraft sales/acquisition at CRQ.
